Book Talk Tuesday: Almost Super with a Freebie!

Book Talk Tuesday: Almost Super and a Freebie!
Hello again!
Happy Tuesday!
Today our book is a chapter book.
This year my class had a really hard time settling down after lunch and recess, so I moved my daily chapter book read aloud from the end of the day to right after recess.
We read several books this year (which will be featured in upcoming posts) but this one was our favorite this year!
Almost Super by Marion Jensen is about a family of superheros (The Bailey’s) and their archenemies (The Johnson’s).  Every leap year the children who are 12 or older in these families get super powers at precisely 4:23 in the afternoon.  Rafter Bailey and his brother Benny have been waiting for this day their whole lives.  Until something goes awry…
This is a great book to talk about what makes someone a hero.  Is is some super power or is it just their willingness to carry on and do what is right?
We LOVED this book.  I had a hard time stopping each day because I wanted to know what was going to happen.  I also brought it home and my middle schooler loved it!
I can’t wait to read it again next year, and there is a second book!
So, a little explanation about the freebie with this book.
I have read several articles lately about how doodling in class can help with memory and retention:
are just a few examples!
So, I am going to start encouraging my students to doodle while I am reading!
The little freebie that I made is a structured doodle sheet for the kiddos to have a purpose set for their doodling with this book. (Click on the pictures for your own copy!)

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I will see you next week with another book and another freebie!
