Book Picnic with a freebie!

I have a problem.
I am addicted to children's books!  I love children's books.

I believe that I have a pretty good classroom library (it wraps most of the way around my classroom).  But, with so many books, some of the best ones sometimes get put away and never get read because they aren't as easy to get to, or not as visible as others.  So, how do I get those great books out and noticed?  Of course I read aloud, every day, several times a day (I have a blog post about how I distribute those books with book raffles here), but another thing that we enjoy doing in our classroom is having a book picnic!

In order to have a book picnic, I choose book boxes that I know the kiddos aren't regularly choosing books out of.  I put one box on each table.  Then, we spend time at each table and rotate so the kiddos have time to look through all of the book boxes.

The kiddos love book picnic days!  You should hear some of the great book conversations.  I love it when they get excited about books!  This year, I made the kiddos a book shopping "Wish List" for them to fill out when we do our book picnics or when we have book discussions or when their friends recommend books to each other! Before we start we talk about what at wish list is, and why it would be a good idea to have one.

Here is my little Book Shopping Wishlist freebie!  Thanks so much to Jen Jones over at Hello Literacy for the font, and Creative Clips for the frame!

Thank you so much for stopping by!
