Friday was our second annual Family Reading Night at school. I was on the committee last year, but this year I was was asked to head the committee. I was a little nervous, but I said that I would do it!
I must confess that I lost some sleep over the whole thing, but it turned out to be a lot of fun!
We had some great volunteer readers: Two wonderful teachers from a local pre-school (they got to see a lot of “alumni”!), two K-9 police officers with their dogs, a soccer coach (who did some great soccer tricks), some firemen (who brought in their fire gear and let the kiddos try it on), two high-school football players, a solider, and a teacher. We also had a book walk with a book swap, snacks, and a special visitor even made an appearance!

Our community library was represented and they gave out some fun things and had library card applications available! We received a generous donation of girl scout cookies from the brownie troupe that meets at our school, book donations from several teacher, a few stuffed animals from our principal and some other fun reading goodies from our media specialist and our Honor Society book store! I also had a lot of wonderful helpers (parents and other teachers). Does your school host a reading night? If you do I would love to hear how you do yours, I want to plan next years reading night too!
